2023 PROGRAM UPDATE The National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF) has made the decision to close the Ascot Fund and is no longer accepting donations for this program. The Ascot Fund will conclude once the current fund balance has been spent. The Ascot Fund has provided a modest award to qualifying community members who sought financial help to purchase a cranial prosthetic, or wig. The award covers a small portion of the overall cost of a wig. A thorough review of the program and its outcomes has determined that the Fund is not sustainable and that NAAF can improve impact by focusing more energy and resources toward other support programs and to advocacy work. NAAF’s advocacy efforts prioritize passage of legislation that will require Medicare and insurance companies to provide coverage for wigs, which has the potential to impact tens of thousands of people in our community. As we move forward, we will seek to identify other organizations who have expertise in the area of providing wigs and share that information on our website. Funds designated for the Ascot Fund received after May 15, 2023, will be directed to support NAAF’s advocacy efforts. NAAF’s Ascot Fund is a financial assistance program to help adults and children with alopecia areata purchase a hairpiece. The maximum amount awarded is $300. The applicant needs to be able to pay any balance beyond the award amount. You are eligible for the Ascot Fund if you meet the following requirements: have been diagnosed with alopecia areata by a dermatologist or doctor, are unable to purchase a hairpiece due to financial challenges, are not already in possession of the hairpiece for which you are applying, have not been awarded an Ascot Fund grant in the last three (3) years, have not already paid for the full balance of the cost of the hairpiece. (The Ascot Fund is a pre-purchase program; reimbursements are not provided for any purchases paid in full either by credit card or other financial means).
